Mitered Welt Pocket for a Tailored Jacket
Welt pockets, both functional and decorative, are used on many types of garments including jackets, coats, slacks, blouses and dresses. Creating the welt can be challenging even for the seasoned sewist because the welt seams are usually bulky and form bulbous, unsightly corners. This method, developed by Judy Barlup of Unique Techniques, eliminates this problem by mitering the welt ends. The technique is easy and fun to sew, and foolproof because you can fix any mistakes as you sew and before cutting into your garment fabric.
